The amount received is based on the amount paid into the fund by the employed person.

The amount received is based on your income and assets.  It is a need based program.

You must have worked or be a dependent (spouse or child) of someone who has worked in order to receive money from this fund.

You must be financially needy to receive SSI benefits.

You can receive money from this fund for one of the following reasons:

     You Retire

     You become Disabled

You die and your Survivors (spouse and/or child)receive benefits.

You can receive SSI benefits regardless of age for the following reasons:

     You are Blind

     You are Disabled

If you are 65 years or older, you may be eligible for SSI based on age.

RSDI is assessed prior to the SSI program.

Both programs are administered and eligibility determined by the Social Security Administration.  DHS administers the medical portion of the SSI program.  All SSI recipients are eligible for Medicaid.

A person may receive both RSDI and SSI.
